It will require owner operators to update incomplete pipeline records dating back as far as the 1940’s. There are 3 major requirements for gas pipelines under the Mega Rule and they include:
- Intensifying the risk assessment and maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP) requirements
- Expanding the integrity management program regulations to gathering lines and other previously nonregulated lines
- Increasing reporting and safety as per section 192.607, supported with procedures for
- Traceability
- Verification – supported with non-destructive and destructive testing
- Completeness and accuracy of the assets subject to regulatory oversight
